ACCELERATION

Acceleration is the cornerstone of all field sports.

The capacity of an athlete to rapidly overcome the inertia of their body mass and project themselves forward is a critical feature of elite performance.

Research has shown that modelling of speed data offers insights into acceleration performance that can drive the development the design and implementation of individually tailored programs.

Similarly, in the return to training and playing phases post injury, assess the qualities of acceleration provides a high level of task specific information about the status of the athlete’s capabilities.

Acceleration is assessed via a 20m sprint from a standing or 3-point start (specific to the environment). In a rehabilitation setting sub-maximal accelerations can be assessed above 5m/s.

Acceleration may be captured with the GPS unit in either the thoracic or lumbar mount.
